DART New Flyer XN40Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has exercised an option to add 41 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses as a follow-up to an order for the same quantity of buses placed with North American bus manufacturer New Flyer in March 2018. The new buses are integral to planned service changes later this summer.

The 41 new CNG-fueled buses are each 40-ft. long. To date, thirteen New Flyer XN-40 buses have been delivered from St. Cloud, Minnesota, with an additional three arriving weekly.

Besides a cleaner, smoother, quieter ride and sleeker appearance, DART operators will have a barrier door shield and a sliding window, automatic passenger counters and a new on-board battery management system.

This order is part of a plan to reduce fleet NOx (nitrogen oxides) emissions by 90% over conventional diesel-powered vehicles.
