Thailand’s Customs Department has released the first of 489 Compressed Natural Gas (buses) ordered for the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), through bus importation company Bestlin Group, which sells CNG buses manufactured by Chinese bus company Sunlong. The first batch of 291 vehicles has been delivered to BMTA and will replace aged conventional-fuel buses.
“The Transport Ministry will test the efficiency of the new buses and install the GPS system as well as register them before launching the first five buses on December 21 to operate around Sanam Luang to take commuters to pay respect to the body of HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The rest will be put into service on 22 routes throughout Bangkok,” said the Prime Minister’s Office spokesman, Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd (early December).
