US automaker Chrysler Group LLC, is considering the addition of compressed natural-gas (CNG) powered engines to its Ram truck brand, reports Bloomberg. “I’m eager and very interested to see what we can do with CNG in our truck applications,” Fred Diaz, head of the Ram brand, said in an interview at the Chicago Auto Show, in a statement possibly designed to test market response.
Back-to-base fleet operators with their own CNG fuelling facilities may be targeted by Chrysler, for experiment, said Diaz.
Chrysler media relations manager, Vince Muniga, told NGV Global natural gas was one of a number of strategies being considered by Chrysler, adding it was too early in the development stage to provide further details at this time. Chrysler has a significant OEM advantage through its association with 25% owner Fiat, long versed in natural gas vehicle (NGV) technology in Europe.
