China Shipbuilding (CSSC) Launches Dual-Fuel Harbour Tug

China's first dual-fuel tugboat (illustration)China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) plans to launch China’s first dual-fuel harbor tug, the CNOOC 521, from their Huangpu Shipyard by the end of August. The vessel is the first of two liquefied natural gas powered vessels being built for CNOOC Energy Development for environmentally sustainable operations out of Gaolan Port in Zhuhai, near Hong Kong.

Built by CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, the vessels are each equipped with 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF in line dual-fuel engines.

Principal dimensions:

LOA: 38.6 m
Beam: 11.6 m
Draft: 4.1 m
LNG fuel storage: (2) 25 cubic meter LNG tanks

The second tugboat is due to be launched end September 2013.
