NG and H2 Have Synergies Worth Exploring, US DOE Report States

Sandia H2NG ReportLast September, Sandia National Laboratories, American Gas Association, and Toyota, in support of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fuel Cell Technologies and Vehicle Technologies Offices, convened stakeholders across the hydrogen and natural gas communities in the U.S. to consider opportunities and challenges at the intersection of their development as alternative transportation fuels. Although natural gas and hydrogen have an obvious intersection – natural gas is the feedstock for 95% of the hydrogen produced in the U.S. – little attention has been given to how these fuels can evolve in the context of each other. Automanufacturers to Jointly Support H2 Refueling Infrastructure in Japan

Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. have agreed to work together to help accelerate the development of hydrogen station infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) in Japan. Specific measures, aimed at addressing the chicken and egg conundrum, will be determined by the three manufacturers at a later date. Read more »

Air Liquide Completes Two H2 Stations in Japan

Japan Air Liquide opens H2 stations Jan2015Air Liquide has completed construction of two hydrogen filling stations, in the cities of Nagoya and Toyota, located in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan. The new stations were developed in a collaborative joint venture between Air Liquide Japan and Toyota Tsusho Corp., Toyotsu Air Liquide Hydrogen Energy. They are the first public-use hydrogen filling stations for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles in the central Nagoya area and in Toyota City. Read more »

Daimler, Linde and Partners to Build H2 Fuelling Stations in Germany

To this end, the two companies are investing around EUR 10 million (USD 12.6 m) in ten fuelling stations each. On 29 September, the first of the Daimler- and Linde-initiated public fuelling stations for fuel-cell vehicles was officially opened at a TOTAL multi-energy fuelling station on Jafféstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg. California state agencies are collaborating on a range of initiatives to support the goal of 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2025. The California Energy Commission (CEC) carried out one of these initiatives, voting to use nearly $46.6 million to put in place 28 new, public hydrogen refueling stations and one mobile refueler by the end of 2015. European Parliament Approves EU Rules for Build-Up of Refueling Points

The European Parliament has given its final approval to new EU rules to ensure the build-up of alternative refuelling points across Europe with common standards for their design and use. Policy initiatives so far have mostly addressed the actual fuels and vehicles, without considering fuels distribution. Efforts to provide incentives have been uncoordinated and insufficient.
