American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has been selected to class two Offshore Supply Vessels (OSV) being retrofitted with a battery/converter system by Harvey Gulf International Marine. Wärtsilä Solutions for China’s First Seagoing LNG Bunker Vessel
China’s first seagoing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker vessel will operate with a comprehensive and integrated package of highly efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions from the technology group Wärtsilä. Volvo Says TNO Tests Prove Suitability of LNG as Truck Fuel
The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), an organisation independent of government and commercial influence, has completed tests of the Volvo FH LNG truck. TNO has found that under representative conditions for long-distance transport in the Netherlands CO2 emissions from the exhaust of the Volvo FH LNG truck are almost 20% lower than those of TNO-tested Euro 6 diesel trucks. The saving is considerable, especially when deployed on the highway, namely a 23% reduction in CO2. Read more »
Trio of LNG Shipping Designs Celebrated at Nor-Shipping 2019
Three major celebrations have taken place at Nor-Shipping 2019 in Oslo this week, related to LNG-fuelled marine transportation. Two of the world’s leading large ship builders, SHI and HHI, have been presented with approvals in principle (AiP) for VLCC designs in separate ceremonies by LR, and Gagarin Prospect, an LNG-fuelled Aframax crude oil tanker owned and operated by Sovcomflot (SCF Group), has won the Next Generation Ship Award 2019. Heerema’s Herculean Dual-fuel Semi-submersible Crane Vessel Completed by Sembcorp
Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine (SCM) entered into an Engineering and Construction contract with Netherlands-based Heerema Offshore Services B.V. (HOS) to build a new DP3 dual-fuelled semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) in mid 2015. Now launched and nearing completion, SSCV Sleipnir is the first dual-fuel crane vessel, with engines running on LNG and MGO for sustainable operation across all environmental jurisdictions. ANG Technology to Collect Boil-off Gas on LNG Ships

Cenergy Solutions has signed a collaboration agreement with one of the largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) shipbuilders in the world to store boil-off gas without compressing it in high pressure CNG tanks or refrigerating the gas to be restored as LNG. The captured gas is then able to be used to fuel the ship’s engines, with both dedicated and dual-fuel LNG as applications. Read more »
Australia’s Incat Secures Contract for LNG-Powered World-Leading Ferry
Australian shipbuilder Incat, based in Hobart, Tasmania, has secured a contract to build the world’s largest aluminium ship. The vessel, like its Incat-built predecessor Francisco, will be used Liquefied Natural Gas to achieve a maximum speed of over forty knots. The 130‑metre ferry will join the other Incat ships already serving various ports between Argentina and Uruguay. Read more »
EU Funding Advances Hydrogen Power for Ferries
The European innovation project Flagships has been awarded EUR 5 Million from the EU to support deploying two commercially operated zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell vessels in France and Norway.
