Under the umbrella of the UNECE’s Group of Experts on General Safety, which met in Geneva on 8-12th October 2018, a busy agenda of NGV activities across a wide variety of topics has been attended by NGV Global.  The agenda included provisions for the testing of CNG cylinders (with mirror provisions for LNG tanks) and several new CNG/LNG technologies introduced to legitimize their use on vehicles. Volkswagen has partnered with Stanford University in the USA to bring about the next major advance in fuel cell technology. The fuel cell is regarded as a serious alternative to the classic electric car with battery cells. However, the biggest problem is the comparatively high cost of the technology. CO2-derived Methane Research Funded by U.S. Government and SoCalGas

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Stanford School of Engineering’s Spormann Laboratory have been awarded funding to study new technology with potential to significantly reduce the cost of producing renewable natural gas (RNG) and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The two entities will receive $800,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and SoCalGas will provide co-funding of $400,000 in addition to $125,000 of seed funding it provided in 2017.  Read more »

DNV GL’s First AiP for Maritime Hydrogen Solution goes to Hyon in Norway

Norwegian hydrogen fuel chain company Hyon AS has received the world’s first approval-in-principle from DNV GL of their module-based fuel cell solutions, adapted for maritime use. The approval builds on the MS-100 fuel cell from PowerCell and opens the way for a general application of fuel cells in ships. Read more »
