RMV, the public transport network of the Frankfurt metropolitan area in Germany, through its subsidiary fahma (Vehicle Management Region Frankfurt RheinMain GmbH) recently issued a tender throughout Europe for 27 fuel cell trains. Late last month, GRDF –one of the largest natural gas distributors in the European Union– visited Riga, Latvia’s capital city, together with representatives of the French city of Lille, to familiarize themselves with the dual-fuel gas operation of a converted diesel locomotive. Alstom’s Hydrogen Trains Commence Passenger Service in Germany
Saint-Ouen-based Alstom, one of Europe’s largest railway manufacturers which has a focus on sustainable mobility, has celebrated the arrival of the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell train entering into service in Germany. The world premiere, in Bremervörde, in Lower Saxony, took place in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Transport of Lower Saxony, the Federal Ministry of Transport and the transport authorities of LNVG and EVB. Indian Railways Expands Natural Gas Applications
Indian Railways and GAIL (India) Limited have together taken a significant step towards expanding usage of natural gas as an environment-friendly fuel across all Indian Railways applications. The decision is complementary to the current determination by the Ministry of Railways to reduce use of diesel fuel and increase energy/fuel efficiency in its operation system, including conversions of Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) to natural gas.
