Beijing Double-Decker Buses Commence LNG Operations

| China, Beijing

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) is supplying liquefied natual gas (LNG) for Beijing’s double-decker buses starting December 1. A ceremony held at Xiangquan Roundabout bus station celebrated the first large capacity LNG bus to officially commence operation.

With CO2 emissions equivalent to 50 cars, and CO2 reduction of 30% compared with conventionally fuelled buses, the LNG buses are contributing to reducing transport related carbon emissions on Beijing’s streets.

To date, three LNG stations have supplied fuel for 5,000 vehicle trips, at cost savings of around 30% over oil-based fuels.

Sinopec is reportedly constructing another three LNG refueling stations, planned for completion by end-2012.
