It outlined its current natural gas fuel initiatives and future plans.

ADNOC Distribution currently operates a natural gas distribution network of 45 kilometres in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to a network of 25 service stations that are fitted out with dedicated fueling pumps for vehicles running on compressed natural gas (CNG). Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, highlighted the importance of the World Future Energy Summit platform in convening clean energy experts from around the world to meet and exchange expertise and showcase the latest developments in the industry with a view to identifying solutions for sustainable development.

Speaking on ADNOC Distribution’s sustainable initiatives, Al Dhaheri said: “ADNOC Distribution has adopted a leading project to provide natural gas as alternative fuel for vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in addition to also retailing conventional fuels. Furthermore, the company provides required conversion facilities to enable vehicles to run on natural gas fuels towards ensuring a cleaner and safer environment. We aim through such initiatives to implement sustainability measures in our daily operations. We are keen to increase the geographical footprint of this project and step-up the number of service stations equipped to provide natural gas fuel as part of our ongoing expansion strategy.”

Al Dhaheri added: “In order to cater for the increasing demand, we will double the number of service stations providing natural gas for vehicles in the next five years – taking their number to 70 service stations by 2020.”

The increased focus on leveraging environment friendly fuels is in line with ADNOC Distribution’s efforts to adopt safe and sustainable initiatives that support the national economy of the UAE and help in safeguarding its environment by reducing the carbon footprint.
