During late October, SAIC Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. (SAIC Hongyan), based in Chongqing, China, sent reverberations through the Chinese truck market when it received more than 1200 orders for new natural gas powered trucks, all rated at the new China Standard VI (China VI). The new rating comes into force nationally on 1 July 2020 and approximates the Euro VI standard.
SAIC Hongyan reported natural gas prices have again stabilised, encouraging new interest in NGVs. The new emissions standard has further galvanised interest, making it more challenging for conventionally fuelled vehicles, especially those operating with diesel, to meet the new requirements.
On October 27th, SAIC Hongyan’s released its China VI-rated Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuelled Jieshi C6 6×4 and 8×4 heavy truck products for the transportation of sand, coal, dangerous chemicals, construction materials and waste products, and trucks servicing ports. The launch occurred simultaneously in Shanxi Taiyuan, Shaanxi Yulin and Henan Zhengzhou, resulting in 1,207 orders on the spot.
The SAIC Blue Core Power LNG engine on the Hongyan Jieshi C6 series is an engine with both power and economy. Developed by SAIC Power in conjunction with the famous European design institute AVL and the Southwest Research Institute, the 440 hp engine (max. torque 1950 Nm) not only fully meets the national six emission standards, but also has the performance quality comparable to the Benz DD13 engine.
