By 2014, thousands of Czech Republic state and municipal vehicles – as well as buses – will be powered by CNG as part of an agreement signed between the government and natural gas companies. The agreement is part of the country’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. An implementation program is expected in the next few weeks. "From the state’s side, the agreement will be implemented according to the [official] Program to replace state administration vehicles," said Environment Ministry spokesman Jakub Kaspar. "It is nearly complete and will be submitted for government approval in the coming weeks." The report says the government is aiming for 25 percent penetration of alternative fuel vehicles in the government fleet, the bulk of which will be CNG, as part of a National Emissions Reduction Program adopted in June 2007.
