Ashok Leyland is planning to develop heavy vehicles that run on compressed natural gas (CNG), in a response to India’s improved gas supply. Availability of gas is expected to double this year with gas flowing from Reliance Industries’ Krishna Godavari basin. The news, reported by The Economic Times, was apparently confirmed by Ashok Leyland MD, R Seshasayee, who said preliminary discussions were underway regarding the development of certain CNG models. A RIL spokesperson also confirmed the development, saying “We are exploring opportunities with a few companies, including Ashok Leyland, in long-distance heavy vehicles.”
