Brazilian gas company Companhia Potiguar de Gás (Potigás), responsible for distribution of gas in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, has launched a new initiative designed to revitalise the natural gas vehicle (NGV) fuel market in the state. The initiative’s objectives will be achieved through promotion of the wide distribution of advantages and demystification of the fuel. GAZ CNG Buses to Join Moscow Fleet

Russian vehicle manufacturer GAZ Group has tendered successfully to provide traditional-fuel and compressed natural gas (CNG)-fuel buses to Moscow’s Department of Transport. Equipment will be delivered to the customer by the fall of 2013. Buses will be involved in the urban transport system of Moscow. The natural gas buses include 16 LIAZ-5292 and 4 LiAZ 6213 buses. Britain’s First Bio-LNG Filling Station Launched
The UK’s first open access Bio-LNG filling station, built by Gasrec, was launched today in an official opening by Parliamentary Under Secretary for the Department for Transport, Norman Baker MP. The Cryogenic Liquid Methane Aircraft (CLiMA) team is one of five finalists selected by experienced Airbus engineers from more than 618 submissions in the 2013 Fly Your Ideas global university challenge. New LNG-Fueled Lease Fleet for US Truckers
Fleets operating along the I-84 and I-15 corridors from Las Vegas, Nev., through Utah, Idaho, and eastern Oregon can now rent Kenworth trucks fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) through a new rental program available from PACCAR Leasing Company (PacLease), its local franchise – Kenworth Sales Company, and Blu LNG. PacLease and Salt Lake City-based Kenworth Sales Company are teaming up with Blu LNG to provide the LNG-fueled trucks and the LNG fuel to power them. Read more »
Two LNG Dual-Fuel Ferries for Québec

The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) — the Society of Quebec Ferries — had concluded an agreement to build two dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships with shipbuilder Chantier Davie Canada Inc. (Davie). The Ro-Pax ferries, built at a total cost of approx $125 million, will operate on the St. Lawrence River on the Tadoussac-Baie-Sainte-Catherine route and shall enter service in 2015. GreenGasGrids Publishes ‘Biomethane Guide for Decision-Makers’
The GreenGasGrids project (GGG), which was funded by the Intelligent Energy for Europe (IEE) program and established to support the upgrading of biogas to biomethane for injection into the natural gas grid, has published a document called ‘Biomethane Guide for decision-makers – a policy guide on biogas injection into the natural gas grid’. Natural gas vehicle (NGV) engines burn methane as fuel, and biomethane is a renewable gas that has a major reduction impact on emissions. Read more »

Russia Decrees Massive Natural Gas Transport Fuel Targets for 2020

50% conversion planned for cities with population over 1 million
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev on 13th May signed a decree prepared by the Ministry of Energy of Russia that will change the face of transportation in his country. The decree includes an order to “develop a set of legal, economic and organizational measures of the state to support the production, release into circulation and trafficking in motor vehicles and agricultural equipment to natural gas, creating traffic fueling and service infrastructure, statistical systems and technical regulation for natural gas as a motor fuel”. Rosneft Signs Agreements with VW and Kamaz to Boost Gas Engine Fuel Market
Russian oil and gas company OJSC Rosneft and LLC Volkswagen Group Russia have signed an agreement aimed at the development of the compressed natural gas (CNG) market in Russia, as well as the CNG-powered vehicles market. Rosneft has also signed an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation with vehicle manufacturer KAMAZ Truck Sp. z o.o. to expand use of natural gas as motor fuel. In Moscow, Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Nguyen Vu Truong Son, Vice President of Petrovietnam State Oil and Gas Corporation have signed in the presence of Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in natural gas production and use as a motor fuel. Ford Expands Natural Gas Range in Sweden with C-MAX CNG
Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) drivers in Sweden have been presented another option with the launch of a new compact minivan. The Ford C-Max is able to operate on biomethane or natural gas and qualifies for the tougher clean car standards; operating on pure biomethane the C-Max carbon emissions will be as low as 29 g/km. EVOL LNG and Victorian Government Deliver First Regional Refueler

Kleenheat Gas’ EVOL LNG and the Government of the Australian State of Victoria have opened the first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) refuelling station in Wodonga, 300 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, as part of a joint commitment to increasing LNG availability in regional Victoria. Speaking at the Caltex Truck Stop in Wodonga, Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan said the USD/AUD 8.3 million project would include construction of five LNG refuelling sites across Victoria, and the purchase of two LNG fuelled heavy-duty vehicles and tankers for distribution to refuelling sites.
