By 2014, thousands of Czech state and municipal vehicles will be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) in line with an agreement signed by the government two years ago (see earlier NGV Global report ) with gas companies as part of the country’s plan to reduce carbon dioxide (C02) emissions, according to Czech daily Hospodarske noviny (HN).
Interfax quotes a report from the Czech daily, Hospadarske Noviny, saying that an implementation program is expected in the next few weeks. "From the state’s side, the agreement will be implemented according to the [official] Program to replace state administration vehicles," Environment Ministry spokesman Jakub Kaspar told the daily. "It is nearly complete and will be submitted for government approval in the coming weeks."
The report says the government is aiming for 25% penetration of alternative fuel vehicles in the government fleet, the bulk of which will be CNG, as part of a National Emissions Reduction Program adopted in June 2007.
Natural gas companies active in the Czech Republic are reportedly meeting with government officials regarding the possibility of securing grants.
The report also implies that the Government focus is also on bus fleets , with no plans for grants for private vehicles at this stage.
