Veolia Launches UK’s Largest Fleet of Gas-fuelled Vehicles

The low-entry MB Econic CNG enters service for Veolia, in Sheffield.

Sheffield City Council and Veolia Environmental Services, the Council’s recycling and waste management contractor, have launched the country’s largest fleet of gas-fuelled vehicles today, states a company press release. The ten recycling and waste collection lorries — low-entry Mercedes Econic CNG vehicles — will run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

NREL and Partners to Provide up to $13.5 Million to Support Natural Gas Engine and Vehicle Development

Belgium Builds Natural Gas Vehicle Refuelling Network

Belgium is improving natural gas fuel highway connections with its neighbors Germany and the Netherlands, through the activities of Dats24, a subsidiary company of the Colruyt Group. Two of its planned four unmanned CNG refuelling facilities have been opened this year, in the Antwerp port region, and two more are planned for completion by the end of 2010. Additionally there are plans for another four stations in the near future, according to mobimix.be.

Landi Develops CARB Certified Dedicated CNG System for Ford E-Series

Landi Renzo USA Corporation (Landi Renzo) has announced development of a 50 state CARB certified dedicated CNG system that will be available on the 2011/12 gaseous prep 5.4L Ford E-Series Cargo and Passenger Van in the first quarter of 2011. Andrea Landi, North American President Landi Renzo USA is quoted as saying the company hopes to open the market by reducing installation costs for customers while matching Ford’s practices in engineering and calibration.

Germany’s Government Aims to Encourage More NGVs – Tax Concessions to Continue

Vos Logistics Opens First LNG filling Station in Netherlands

Vos Logistics, together with Mercedes-Benz Nederland, LNG Europe, Van Gansewinkel and Indox CryoEnergy Spain, has taken the initiative to enable trucks in the Netherlands to run on environmentally friendly LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). The group has collaborated on the first LNG filling station in mainland north-west Europe, which has been officially opened by Pieter Hofstra, chairman of the Dutch national transport association, Koninklijk Nederlands Vervoer.

STX Norway Offshore Powers Up PSVs with LNG

STX Norway Offshore has entered into three separate contracts in recent days to build LNG-powered platform supply vessels (PSVs). Two of the contracts, with Island Offshore and worth approximately NOK 900 million (USD 148.2 million), will be for Romanian-built hulls outfitted in Brevik, Norway, for delivery in Q2 and Q3 2012. The other hull, also to be constructed in Romania, will be outfitted in remote Aukra, Norway and delivered to Olympic Shipping in Q1 2012.

Finland’s Wärtsilä Corporation, a ship power solution provider, has signed a turnkey contract with Tarbit Shipping of Sweden to convert a product tanker to LNG propulsion, and to supply the ship with a Wärtsilä LNGPac system for the storage of LNG onboard. This is the first order for a Wärtsilä LNGPac system.

Green Dragon Gas Acquires Regional CNG Refuelling Network in China

Green Dragon Gas, an independent CBM gas producer and distributor and seller of wholesale gas in China, has entered into a binding agreement to add 25 new vehicle refuelling stations in 7 districts in Henan Province. The acquisition cost is USD 15 million, with each station expected to cost a further USD 500,000 in construction related expenses.

United Kingdom bus manufacturer Optare Group, in a new strategic partnership with India’s Ashok Leyland Ltd since July this year, is considering the addition of Ashok CNG engine technology to its wide range of EcoDrive low carbon power solutions. Already offering green bus power solutions including biomethane, Optare wants to add the EcoDrive range for European markets, where the availability of CNG makes the fuel an attractive low carbon option.

Despite tough conditions in the Danish Jyllandring on September 4-5, Team biogas.se, driving biogas fuelled VW Sciroccos, retained it position as leader of the STCC’s team championship. Best individual performance in the event was by Fredrik Ekblom, with two fifth places, enough to reinforce his third place in the driver’s championship and close the gap on second to just 27 points. The outcome is all the more remarkable because of an additional 60 kg and reduced turbo boost pressure by 0.05 bar imposed for this seventh of nine events by race organisers.
