Japan Encourages NGV Trucks

June 30, 2010 – 1:51 am | Source: The Electric Daily News | Japan, Tokyo

Japan’s gas industry, encouraged by the huge uptake of natural gas for municipal buses in nearby Republic of Korea, has apparently adopted a policy to support natural gas vehicle transportation in its own country, advocating for high-efficiency trucks and reduced costs for fueling stations, reports the Electric Daily News. Long-distance truck transport and other freight transport accounts for about one-third of Japan’s total CO2 emissions in the transportation sector. A move to natural gas, reportedly supported by the Japan Gas Association, is expected to have an immediate and positive effect on the environment by significantly reducing emissions.

June 24, 2010 – 2:00 am | Source: TradingMarkets.com | China, Beijing

Shaanxi Auto, CNOOC join forces on LNG heavy-duty trucks

Chinese automaker Shaanxi Automobile Group Co. Ltd is reportedly cooperating with the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) heavy-duty truck business, according to a TradingMarkets article which cites 21st Century Business Herald. The report noted that neither party was willing to provide comment or detail, acknowledging only that the LNG vehicle technologies are mature now and that they hope to gain  first-mover advantage in the LNG vehicle market. Shaanxi Auto is responsible for developing LNG heavy-duty trucks for long-distance transportation companies, while CNOOC Gas and Power is expected to ensure LNG supply for the trucks by building LNG stations on their running routes, the report says. Shaani currently has technological cooperation with Germany’s MAN AG to make heavy trucks. The Xi’an based commercial vehicle maker sold 76,000 heavy trucks and buses last year.
