Syria to Employ Iranian Know-How to Convert Gas Engines to CNG

March 30, 2009 – 2:00 pm

Syria, Damascus

Syrian Oil and Mineral Resources Minister Sofyan al-Alaw on Monday emphasized the need for taking advantage of Iran’s experience in converting gasoline run engines to condensed natural gas (CNG) engines, according to a report by TradingMarkets. Receiving the Iranian Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nouzari at Damascus International Airport, al-Alaw said, “This visit would further strengthen the friendship of the two countries and lead to broader cooperation between Iran and Syria, including launching joint projects in oil and gas fields.” Al-Alaw referred to the signing of an agreement with Iran two years ago for Iranian gas imports, emphasizing the need to implement it as soon as possible so the gas could be used by Syrian industries and for pursing joint projects.

Iveco's CNG Daily soon to be launched in UK

Warranty conditional on natural gas supply

Iveco will announce an agreement with a gas supplier in the UK in the next two months ahead of the launch of its latest generation Daily CNG (compressed natural gas) van later this year, according to RoadTransport.com. The deal will mean that anyone purchasing a new Daily CNG will have to use Iveco’s preferred gas supplier, as the manufacturer considers the standard of gas in the UK is not “clean  enough” for optimum running efficiency and will void warranties.

VW Caddy Employed to Promote Biomethane for Fuel

March 29, 2009 – 2:00 pm | Source: The Star | United Kingdom

VW Caddy EcoFuel

Chesterfield Special Cylinders recently launched a subsidiary, Chesterfield BioGas, to sell equipment which turns raw biogas from sewage plants and the anaerobic digestion of organic waste into biomethane. Now, in conjunction with Sheffield City Council, the company is utilising a VW Caddy EcoFuel van to demonstrate to the local community the benefits of using biomethane as an alternative fuel for vehicles. Chesterfield BioGas is reported as saying the UK market for biomethane has remained untapped, but with Mercedes and Volkswagen now producing right-hand drive methane fuelled vehicles for the UK market and the Energy Bill paving the way for financial incentives for biomethane to be pumped into the gas grid, the way is becoming clearer for investment in alternative fuel technology and infrastructure.
