Mercedes-Benz Premiere

MercedesBenz natural gas powered Econic TruckThe Netherlands, Amsterdam

Mercedes-Benz have chosen the 2007 RAI International Commercial Vehicle Show in Amsterdam to launch their latest natural gas powered vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz Econic NGT 1828 semitrailer tractor for urban and short-radius distribution. A company press release says the launch is a response to “the demands imposed by environmental legislation on vehicles used for urban transport becoming ever more stringent.” The Econic NGT 1828 with natural gas drive (NGT = Natural Gas Technology) semitrailer tractor has a wheelbase of only 3450 mm.

Philippines CNG Stations Inaugurated

Foreign investors lining up for additional infrastructure

After a long hiatus, the Philippines natural gas vehicle program has finally moved forward, following the inauguration of Shell’s mother CNG station in Tabangao, Batangas and a daughter CNG refilling station along the South Luzon Expressway in Binan, Laguna. The move opens the way for 200 CNG buses to start operations in the country, many of which were imported from China more than two years ago.

Prospects for the Development and Use of CNG in Transport

The Czech Gas Association, a professional association of gas businesses, both natural and juristic persons, operating in the Czech Republic and a member of IGU (International Gas Union), MARKOGAZ and ENGVA (European Natural Gas Vehicle Association), is preparing an international conference on Prospects for the Development and Use of CNG in Transport. The conference will take place at the Dorint Hotel Don Giovanni in Prague, Czech Republic, on 23rd and 24th January 2008.

Lighter Than Air Fuel To Take To the Skies? Qatar Considers NG Aircraft

Middle Eastern airline Qatar Airways could be considering flying aircraft fueled by natural gas. Emirates Today reports that the airline is in talks with Shell and engine manufacturers Rolls Royce and General Electric regarding the feasibility of operating their aircraft commercially using natural gas. Feasability might be an understatement though with Qatar Airways General Manager quoted as saying, “Engineers and scientists are working tirelessly to make this happen and it will happen.”[NGV Global emphasis].

IOC Signs Agreement With GEECL for Supply & Retail of CNG

IndianOil and Great Eastern Energy Corporation Ltd.
(GEECL), the first private sector company in India to explore, develop,
distribute and market Coal Bed Methane (CBM) have signed an agreement for
supply and retailing of CNG through IndianOil Petrol Stations in Asansol,
Durgapur, Raniganj and other nearby cities of West Bengal. The agreement was
signed in New Delhi by Shri AMK Sinha, Executive Director (Retail Sales),
IndianOil, and Shri Prashant Modi, President & Chief Operating Officer,
GEECL in the presence of Shri Chandan Dasgupta Executive Director (Gas) and
other senior officials from IndianOil and Great Eastern Energy Corporation Ltd.

First Delivery of LNG by LNG-Fuelled Vehicle for Prometheus Energy

Alternative and renewable energy company, Prometheus Energy Company has announced a US “first” using a liquid natural gas (LNG”-powered vehicle to transport 10,000 gallons of LNG to a customer. Prometheus’s new LNG fuelled Kenworth tractor has started shipping LNG from the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill LNG facility to be used as an alternative fuel for public transport vehicles in the Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) fleet.

Nike, Converse Choose Liquefied Natural Gas for

Change to clean trucks will result in decreased CO2, NOx and Particulate Emissions

Nike, Inc. and its affiliate company Converse are to switch a significant portion of their Los Angeles area harbor drayage fleet from diesel to new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueled vehicles. The "green fleet" announcement was made in conjunction with news that Nike has joined the Coalition for Responsible Transportation (CRT), a group advocating for policies and public/private partnerships that encourage the use of cleaner truck and alternative fuel technologies in port communities.

CNG Fuel Cost Savings Help Peruvian Taxi Drivers Become Independent

As many as 200,000 taxi drivers in Peru could end their reliance on rented cabs and become owners of their own vehicle, thanks to savings obtained by using compressed natural gas (CNG) instead of gasoline. livinginperu.com reports that the Mi Taxi program, which already has 150 vehicles on the road, allows drivers to buy a CNG fueled Chevrolet Corsa cab with a small deposit and use savings on fuel costs to pay the balance owing on their vehicle. Another 150 vehicles will be introduced under the program in the next month. They will join drivers who have already doubled their take home income. The CNG Corsa’s are factory built as taxis, with reinforced suspension to allow for the weight of the CNG cylinders.

Westport and OMVL Form Joint Venture to Develop, Produce and Sell Alternative Fuel Engines

Westport Innovations Inc. and OMVL SpA formed an equity joint venture to design, produce and sell alternative fuel engines in the sub-5 litre class for global applications. The new, jointly controlled company will be headquartered in Vancouver, Canada and will exploit the global engineering, production and distribution strengths of OMVL and its parent company, SIT Group, to deliver engines worldwide. Westport will support the new venture through supply of technology, design, testing and market development services.

Clean Energy Signs Deal to Increase LNG Resources in Southwest

10-Year Agreement to Help Supply Growing Transportation Fuel Demand in AZ and CA
 
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has entered into an LNG sales agreement with Spectrum Energy Services, LLC (SES), an Alaska limited liability company, to purchase, on a take-or-pay basis over a term of 10 years, 45,000 gallons per day of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a plant to be constructed by SES in Ehrenberg Arizona, which is near the California border. The plant is anticipated to be in full production in the summer of 2009.

Green Highway project team ready to leave Chuncheon Korea for ANGVA 2007 in Bangkok

Project to raise
awareness and initiate fueling infrastructure

ANGVA’s inaugural Green Highways project was launched at a rapturous departure ceremony in Chuncheon City, Korea on Monday October 22nd as the caravan of the Eastern Highway embarked on the journey toward Bangkok.   The 2007 Green Highways Project will consist of two caravans of NGVs departing from East and South Routes to arrive concurrently in Bangkok to coincide with the 27 -29 November 2007 ANGVA Conference and Exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand.

With aims to raise public awareness of the benefits of NGVs and emphasize the environmental and economic benefits of Green Highways for the region, the departure ceremony in Chuncheon proved an early sucess for the project.

New European NGV Association Being Formed

The ENGVA Board of Directors (BoD) has together with Jeff Seisler, who thirteen years ago became the founding Executive Director of ENGVA, this year explored how to best move forward in support of the fast growing European NGV business. In this discussion there has been a clear focus on the need for intensified lobbying actions in Brussels, Strasbourg and Geneva, but also on a rejuvenation of the association. The BoD is right now preparing the establishment of a new European NGV association in early 2008.
