ANGVA Appoints New Executive Director, Moves Office to Malaysia

The Asia-Pacific Natural Gas Vehicle Association (ANGVA) has concluded their search for a new head, appointing Mr Lee Giok Seng to the position of Executive Director for a three year period commencing August 1. Lee has been seconded from PETRONAS where he has been extensively involved with NGV program in PETRONAS since 1990.  Lee was the Senior Manager, Operations & Maintenance Department, PETRONAS NGV Sdn Bhd till June 2006.  Prior to his secondment to ANGVA, Lee was the Head of New Energy Resources, Group Technology and R&D Management, Research & Technology Division, in PETRONAS.

LA Metro Rolls Out North America

Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is going to great lengths to demonstrate their fondness for natural gas as an alternative fuel, rolling out a new 65-foot compressed natural gas (CNG) Metro Liner demonstration bus for daily operations. Just 10 feet shorter than a Metro Rail subway car, the extra-long transit vehicle made by North American Bus Industries, Inc. (NABI) is a first-of-its-kind, designed exclusively for operation on the Metro Orange Line, and is the highest capacity articulated CNG bus in operation in North America.

Barbados Gets Natural Gas Refuelling Under Way with Phill

Barbados is the latest country to join the league of nations using natural gas as an alternative fuel with local Nissan dealer, Courtesy Garage taking delivery of a FuelMaker Phill home refueling appliance to provide fuel. Courtesy Garage, which employs 3,000 people and also runs a vehicle rental agency will use Phill as part of a pilot project introducing Nissan natural gas vehicles (NGV) to the island.

Eden Expands US-based Cryogenic Operation

Australian based Eden Energy, through its wholly owned US subsidiary, Eden Cryogenics LLC, has completed the purchase of the assets and intellectual property of Cryogenic Technical Services (CTS), a company of which Dr. Glen E. McIntosh is President and founder.  Cryogenic storage capability of hydrogen is important to Eden as it completes its technology package related to the production, storage and use of hydrogen, particularly for transport applications using their Hythane hydrogen/methane blends.

Volvo Displays Carbon-dioxide-free Trucks

Engines ready for refueling infrastructure

ImageVolvo Group of Sweden has staged a demonstration of ‘carbon-dioxide-free’ transport, putting seven alternative fuelled demonstration trucks on show, three of which feature methane as a primary fuel. The trucks were exhibited in Stockholm and are equipped with diesel engines that have been modified to operate on seven different types of renewable liquid and gaseous fuels. “Volvo is part of the climate problem, but today we have shown that carbon-dioxide free transports are a possibility and that we as a vehicle manufacturer both can and will be part for the solution to the climate issue,” says Leif Johansson, CEO of the Volvo Group.

Russian Govt Meets with Natural Gas Vehicle Industry Stakeholders

The Russian city of Irkutsk has hosted a joint meeting of the Russian Federation Government and Noncommercial Partnership Russian Gas Society’s Commissions for Natural and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Vehicles. The participants examined the state of and prospects for natural gas utilization as a motor fuel in the Siberian and Far East Federal Districts (FDs).

Further Australian Order for Clean Air Power Dual-Fuel System

Dual-fuel system developer Clean Air Power Limited has released details of an additional product order expanding the company’s operations in Australia. The order is a 20 unit option, exercised by West Australian based bulk logistics solutions provider Mitchell Corp, who purchased 50 of the systems earlier this year. The option has been exercised along with additional Clean Air Power intercooler product enhancements for their entire fleet of Dual-fuel vehicles.  The total incremental order value is around ?0.9m ($US1.8 million), bringing the total Mitchell revenue from these orders to around ?2.4m ($US4.8 million).

Compressed Natural Gas Supply For Pune

India, Pune

The city of Pune in India’s state of Maharashtra look set to have compressed natural gas (CNG) available for natural gas vehicles (NGVs) by November this year, with as many as 29 stations expected to be operational by the end of 2008. The State’s Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Dinsha Patel told the Lok Sabha (lower house of Parliament) that Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) will install the network and that the program would be extended to other cities in the State in due course.

US CNG Cylinder Incident Report Released. Warning on Battery Acid and Accident Follow Ups

On Saturday May 26th, a man refueling his compressed natural gas (CNG) SuperShuttle van was killed when a storage tank on the vehicle ruptured in California.  This is the first known US incident where a failure of the natural gas fuel system contributed to a fatality.  An investigation was carried out by the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), with the cooperation and assistance of the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation.

Reliance Applies to Increase Networks and CNG Distribution in India

India, Mumbai

Indian energy giant, Reliance Natural Resources Ltd (RNRL) has submitted a confirmation notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange confirming reports that their subsidiary Reliance Fuel Resources Ltd has submitted an application to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to set up city gas distribution projects in Mumbai, Delhi and National Capital Region areas. The confirmation notice doesn’t go in to detail but the press reports indicate that the company has submitted three applications for licenses which include the sale of compressed natural gas (CNG) for automobiles in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida.

Omnitek Releases Longlife Spark Plugs for CNG Engines

Californian developer of natural gas engine systems, Omnitek Engineering is introducing longlife spark plugs specifically designed for the demanding conditions found in natural gas engines. The spark plugs feature a center electrode made of Iridium, and a Yttrium enhanced ground electrode. Iridium and Yttrium are extremely resistant to erosion, which Omnitek says guarantees a virtually unchanged electrode gap for the life of the spark plug.

Leading energy provider, PTT PLC has this week signed 2 separate contracts applying natural gas to marine applications while at the same time targeting the heavy vehicle segment. The company has also signaled the possibility of local manufacture of Type 2 compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders.

First CNG OEM Buses For Pakistan

Swede Bus Pakistan Ltd is set to take delivery of their first 15 compressed natural gas (CNG) powered bus following their arrival at Karachi port earlier this month. Company CEO, Ahmed Shabbir says the buses are the first OEM CNG buses for Pakistan and that the company plans to have 250 CNG buses operating in Karachi in due course.
