Quantum Signs Distribution Agreement for India

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. has announced another distribution agreement for Asia, this time covering the marketing, sales, and distribution in India of its alternative fuel vehicle products and systems for compressed natural gas (CNG), blends of natural gas and hydrogen, and liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

Hythane Parent Buys HyRadix

Australian based Eden Energy, parent company of the Hythane Company, has announced the acquisition of HyRadix Inc, a Chicago based company specialising in on-site hydrogen generating systems. HyRadix systems have already been installed in California, China and Malaysia for use in transport, oil hydrogenation and metal annealing.

ImageThe Asia-Pacific Natural Gas Vehicles Association (ANGVA) is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Executive Director. The position will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the Association’s Secretariat will be relocated in the next few months. Applicants should have extensive experience in one of more aspects of the natural gas vehicle industry and should have strong communication and coordination skills. Applicants are invited to submit their application and resume via e-mail to Dr Garth Harris, Secretary-General ANGVA, before May 20, 2007. All applications will be treated in confidence.

Final OIML CNG Measurement Standard Available Online

April 26, 2007 – 7:37 am

The final draft of a proposed OIML compressed natural gas (CNG) measurement standard is now available online at http://www.oiml.org/download/cds/tc8_sc7_cng.pdf. Subject to a satisfactory consultation process, voting on the standard by committee members is expected by the end of 2007. ENGVA is coordinating comments from the natural gas vehicle industry, with comments invited by email to Dr Jeffrey Seisler, ENGVA Executive Director.

Phill Receives Swiss Welcome

Phill, FuelMaker Corporation’s Home Refueling Appliance (HRA) is continuing its international odyssey, with the Swiss Gas and Water Association (SVGW—Schweizerischer Verein des Gas und Wasserfaches) certifying the appliance for use in Switzerland. The Phill unit provides motorists with home or office based refueling of compressed natural gas (CNG) and has been operational in Switzerland since June 2006, when 6 units were put into action for testing purposes in partnership with local gas supplier Holdigaz.

Cummins Westport Confirmed as Engine Supplier for 500 Unit Delhi Bus Deal

Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI), has confirmed that the company is to supply engines for the recently announced 500 CNG bus purchase by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The buses, to be supplied by Tata will be fitted with the Cummins Westport B Gas International (BGI) engine rated at 230 bhp and running on clean burning compressed natural gas (CNG). These are licensed by Cummins Westport and manufactured by Cummins India Limited.

$5 Million Grant Program to Clean up Texan Garbage Trucks

Alternative fuel program will help transform fleets of stinky diesels into clean machines

In Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Beaumont, noisy diesel garbage trucks belching greasy soot into the air may soon be a relic of the past. Jerry Patterson, Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, has announced a $5 million grant program to provide public partners in 20 counties an incentive to switch their fleets of heavy-duty vehicles to run on clean-burning natural gas.

Natural Gas Vehicles for Syria?

Syria could soon be joining the growing band of Middle Eastern countries turning to natural gas vehicles as a preferred alternative fuel. Reports from India indicate that state-owned utility GAIL is to be invited to participate in a global tender to establish a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station network in the country. The tender is reported to be issued later this year, with public transport vehicles expected to be converted to CNG. The announcement is part of an overall hydrocarbon cooperation agreement between India and Syria.

US Biogas Incentive Law Proposed

Two U.S. Senators have proposed legislation to provide financial incentives for the production of biogas. The Biogas Production Incentives Act of 2007 would provide producers with a tax credit of $4.27 for every million BTUs of biogas produced. The Biogas Production Incentives Act of 2007 (no bill number is yet available) would provide biogas producers with a tax credit of $4.27 for every mmBtu of biogas produced.  The legislation would also provide loans and loan guarantees for the collection and transportation of biogas feedstock from smaller livestock operations to a qualified facility, and for the purchase or construction of equipment or facilities for collection and transportation.

California School District Awarded $2.6 Million Natural Gas Buses

California’s Menifee Union School District (California) is to receive $2.6 million for the purchase of new natural gas school buses.  The funding will be coming from three sources — U.S. EPA ($400,000), the South Coast AQMD ($975,000) and the California Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee ($1.3 million).  Until 2003, Menifee Union School District’s bus fleet consisted largely of diesel buses with a smattering of gasoline buses.  In 2003, thanks to the AQMD, older, polluting buses started to be replaced with clean-burning CNG buses.

PG&E Recognized by U.S. EPS for Port of Oakland Clean Vehicle Partnership

Company's Natural Gas and Clean Transportation Expertise Used to Displace 5,000 Gallons of Diesel Fuel Each Year

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 Award for its innovative partnership with a trucking firm and a transportation company to bring cleaner air to the Port of Oakland. With more than 1,100 natural gas fueled vehicles — the largest such fleet of any utility in the US – PG&E was recognized for its help in reducing the Port's diesel emissions and supporting the community of West Oakland's clean air goals.
